Remarks Introducing Tim Noonan
as '04 Spirit of CVR Recipient Tim joined Central Vermont Runners in June 1981 when the club was less than two years old. A year later he ran the Montpelier 10-Miler in a fine time of 59:11. It was the beginning of a long love-affair between Tim and the 10-Miler. Becoming immersed in CVR events, he soon became the director of the race, and held that position for many years (he was director from AT LEAST 1986 through 1997), shepherding the race through years in which it became the premier event in the Hockomock Swamp Rat race series. Tim became so involved in race directing, and so expert at it, that he eventually produced a Race Directors' guide that was a great help to new CVR race directors. In addition to race directing, he has served as CVR's President, and has been active as a volunteer for as long as most of us can remember. His creative ideas for new races continue to amaze and delight his fellow club members. An advocate of kids' running, Tim was a co-founder of the annual CVR Kids Track meet and subsequently has served as a coach to the Montpelier HS X-Country team. To give an idea of the amount of time that Tim volunteers for CVR, consider this: For volunteers at CVR events in 2004, the average number of events volunteered at was 1.9. In 2004, Tim volunteered at 12 CVR events (of 17 possible), and was director of 10 of those events! It is entirely fitting that Tim be recognized as one of this year's honorees with CVR's Spirit of the Club award. |
