"At the annual volunteer dinner, Nancy Rice was awarded the 2009 CVR Spirit of the Club Award. For the last 6 years, CVR has presented the award to a volunteer who over the years, has been especially generous and effective in their volunteer efforts for the club. Nancy stepped up to produce the CVR newsletter in 2005. She increased the newsletter frequency from 4 to 5 times per year and has produced over 20 newsletters in her tenure. Nancy also took on co-directing the Berlin Pond race the last 2 years and has been a frequent volunteer at other races. Nancy has recently retired from work and has announced that she will need to give up the newsletter as she moves on and possibly out of the area. CVR thanks her for her service as she will be difficult to replace."
Priscilla Carr Is '08 Spirit of the Club Honoree
(January 2009)
On January 22 at the Steak House Restaurant, club vice president Andrea McLaughlin presented Priscilla Carr the Spirit of the Club award with these remarks:
The Spirit of CVR award is designed to recognize CVR members who have demonstrated consistent and substantial service to CVR over many years. Priscilla Carr has provided that exemplary service since 2004. Priscilla has dedicated many hours of her time to the club as Treasurer since 2005. Pricilla has brought the club from a state of tax chaos to being in harmony with the IRS. In other words, she has straightened out the clubs non-profit tax status and cleared many years of retroactive taxes without CVR having to pay any fines. CVR would not be in such order with out her diligence and attention to detail and numbers. In addition to her duties as the Clubs Treasurer she has volunteered at countless races.

CVR

the award to Dave.
"The Spirt of CVR award is designed to recognize CVR members who have a demonstrated consistent and substantial service to CVR over many years. Dave Kissner has provided that exemplary service since the mid-1990's. He demonstrated his leadership in club officer positions, most notably as CVR president. He has been race director of two of CVR's larger races. He was first race director of the First Night 5k and served in that capacity for several years. He also was race director of the Paul Mailman Montpelier Ten Miler for several years. Most recently, he has been the CVR webmaster for many years. He has done an excellent job developing and maintaining a creative, informative and timely website."

Two
Perspectives on Leaf Peepers
(October 7-8, 2007)
This year's
Leaf Peepers Half-Marathon and 5K seemed to draw a fair bit of pre-race
attention... and now the post-race commentaries are coming in. In two
successive editions, the Barre Montpelier Times-Argus has:
Off
and Running - Linda Freeman, a personal trainer at First in Fitness,
relates her journey from the '05 Barre Homecoming 5K to this year's Leaf
Peepers 5K.
Running
with the Pack - As Mark Albury states, "for some reason known
only to God and my hairdresser, I decided to enter the Leaf Peeper (sic)
Half Marathon." To give him some credit, it shows in the results
that Mark ran 2:07:22 half for 530th place overall, not the finish in
730th place as he opines in his piece.

Club Award. (Past winners include Tim Noonan, Darragh Ellerson and Donna

has held every club office -- President (an office which he held for
a stint in the 80's and in the 90's and we hope again in the 2000's),
Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer -- the only person to have done
that (17 years of service as a club officer). He has also been newsletter
editor, publicity chair, mailing list coordinator and nominations chair.
He organized teams for the Lake Winnipesaukee Relay and other events.
He has been a race director for Kids Track Meet, Capital City Stampede,
Sub-Ultimate Runner, Berlin Pond Couples Race and the Montpelier Mile.
He continues to be a frequent volunteer at many CVR events."
